I would like to welcome you to our WEB site and take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about our organization, its purpose and objectives.  THE RHODE ISLAND SILVER HAIRED LEGISLATURE HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE IN RHODE ISLAND SINCE 1981.  WE ARE ONE OF MANY NATIONAL SILVER HAIRED LEGISLATURE BRANCHES.  WE ARE ALSO AFFILIATED WITH  THE NATIONAL SILVER HAIRED CONGRESS.  THE RHODE ISLAND SILVER HAIRED LEGISLATURE IS A NON-PARTISAN, NON-PROFIT BODY OF SENIOR CITIZENS, MODELED AFTER RHODE ISLAND'S HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.  FOR TWENTY-ONE YEARS, WE HAVE BEEN DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR OUR SENIORS.  WE ALSO HAVE REPRESENTATION ON BOTH THE RHODE ISLAND FORUM ON AGING AND THE RHODE ISLAND COMMISSION ON AGING.  WE FUNCTION UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ELDERLY AFFAIRS.  WE CONVENE FROM SEPTEMBER THROUGH JUNE.

WE PROVIDE A PLATFORM FROM WHICH WE STRONGLY ADVOCATE, SEPARATELY AND WITH OTHER SENIOR COMMITTEES AND / OR AGENCIES, ON BEHALF OF OUR SENIORS.  WE PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION TO OUR SENIORS, CONGRESSIONAL AND STATE LEGISLATORS.  WE TESTIFY BEFORE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEES, RESEARCH ISSUES, TRACK BILLS AND KEEP OUR MEMBERS UPDATED.

IN 2007, WE LOST ONE OF OUR MOST ACTIVE AND DEDICATED MEMBERS, CHARLES GAUTHIER.
